According to Nischal’s brother Rajesh Singh, Harsu had had a heated altercation with Nischal over some reports the latter had filed a few days before the incident. Singh filed an FIR against Harsu, his son, Dabloo and four others.

Police Investigation: A special investigation team, led by Ara deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Sanjay Kumar, was formed to look into the incident. Harsu was arrested the next day while his son Dabloo surrendered on March 28. Both were booked under Sec 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code.

Status of Case: In April 2019, Additional district and sessions judge (ADJ-6) Tribhuwan Yadav rejected the bail application of both accused. A fast-track court was to begin the trial but the family is still waiting.
