Arrests – Others
Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) Legal Cell on Wednesday strongly condemned the continued alleged illegal detentions of social media activists by the Andhra Pradesh police, despite repeated warnings from the High Court, said a statement from M Manohar Reddy, President of YSRCP Legal Cell.
“The High Court has severely criticised the police in the case of activist Savindra and ordered his immediate release. However, even as the court was questioning the police excesses, another activist, Tarak Pratap Reddy, was illegally picked up, leaving his family in deep distress as his whereabouts remain unknown,” Manohar Reddy said, as per the release.
“Similarly, in Anantapur district, activist Sai Bhargav was forcefully taken from his home and shifted to Rapthadu Police Station without due process. In just three days, three different social media activists have faced unlawful detention and harassment, proving that the police are acting with deliberate disregard for constitutional rights and judicial authority,” he said.
