Press Release

Unions Protest Murder of AP Journalist

The National Alliance of Journalists (NAJ), the Andhra Pradesh Working Journalists Federation (APWJF) and the Delhi Union of Journalists (DUJ) are shocked and grieved at the murder of journalist Jaganmohan Reddy of ABN Andhra Jyothy. Reddy was stabbed to death while on a morning walk in Dhanapuram in Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh on April 28, 2026. His companion journalist Subhramanyam of Prajasakthi who intervened received serious head injuries and has been hospitalized.

Journalists all over Andhra Pradesh have organised huge protests on the issue. The NAJ, APWJF and DUJ jointly demand
an immediate police investigation and arrest of the criminals.

In addition, the journalists organisations demand that ABN Andhra Jyothy management adequately compensate Reddy’s family for their tragic loss. We also expect the Prajasakthi management to pay for the medical treatment of their employee.

The attack which led to a tragic death of one journalist and injuries to another highlights the urgent need for risk insurance and health insurance for journalists. We call once again for a special law to protect journalists from such attacks.
