Internet Control

Internet services were suspended in three districts of Chhattigarh after several incidents of clashes between two groups over the last couple of days. This has led to imposition of curfew in Kawardha district. Trouble triggered on Sunday last over an altercation over hoisting a flag Lohara Naka chowk in ward number 27 of Kawardha and the incident escalated into a clash between two groups, injuring eight people in attack and stone pelting.

The trouble escalated on Tuesday during a bandh call given by an organization that also took out a rally in Kawardha during which about 100-odd people took the street and went on a rampage damaging vehicles, leading to police resorting to lathi-charge to disperse the mob. Subsequently, curfew was clamped in the area and police took out a flag March.

Police suspect that the violence was pre-planned as they have got indications that people from other districts have also reached the town. Besides in the troubled Kawardha district, internet services have been restricted in neighboring Bemetra and Rajnandgaon districts also after it came to notice that many social media posts were spreading hatred and misleading information.
