Attacks – Journalists

The Hyderabad police on Friday, 23 February, booked “unknown” persons for assaulting Chelamala Shankar, a journalist associated with the Telugu website Newsline on 22 February. Even as Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) leaders claimed “Congress goons” assaulted the journalist, police refuted the claims that political party workers were involved in the incident.

Claims on social media, alleging that Congress workers were behind the attack, was endorsed by Opposition BRS in the state. LB Nagar Police Station House Officer (SHO) B Anji Reddy said the incident occurred following a minor accident near Kamineni Hospital in LB Nagar. Two women on a two-wheeler collided with Shankar’s car, which also had a cameraman on board. “The women filed counter complaints and we are looking into the investigation,” added Reddy.
