The Mira-Bhayandar Vasai Virar police in Thane district has filed an FIR against film Annapoorani actors Nayanthara and Jai, producers and Netflix’s head for allegedly hurting the sentiments of the Hindus and encouraging and promoting ‘Love Jihad’. The FIR was lodged by Naya Nagar police station on Thursday night on the complaint of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) activist Arup Mukherjee, 48, a resident of Uttan Road, Bhayandar (West).

The police have booked eight persons including Nayanthara, Jai, producers R Ravindran, Jatin Shethi, Punit Goenka and Netflix’s head and others. According to police, the complainant has alleged that the film maker, without knowing the history of Hindu deities, and without producing any evidence, broadcasted objectionable content. The film’s scenes and dialogues have hurt the sentiments of the Hindus and it also promotes and encourages ‘Love Jihad’,
