Congress MP Shashi Tharoor on Friday filed a civil defamation suit against Arnab Goswami and newly- launched news channel Republic TV in the Delhi High Court claiming damages and compensation of Rs two crore for allegedly making defamatory remarks towards him while airing news relating to the death of his wife Sunanda Pushkar.
The Lok Sabha MP from Thiruvananthapuram has also sought a direction from the High Court to restrain the TV channel from broadcasting any show relating to the death of his wife till the investigation is completed by the Delhi police. The Congress leader, in his lawsuit, has made Goswami and Arg Outlier Media Asianet News Private Limited, the company which owns Republic TV, as parties. He has referred to the broadcasting of news items from May 8 to 13 when the TV channel claimed to air an expose connected to the death of his wife.

Republic TV journalist, who resigned after being ‘ordered’ to harass Shashi Tharoor, ‘apologises’ to Congress MP

Congress MP from Kerala, Shashi Tharoor, on Friday posted a photo of him with a former Republic TV journalist, who, he wrote, had approached him to apologise.
Taking to Twitter, Tharoor wrote that journalist Deepu Aby Varghese, who had resigned from Arnab Goswami’s channel after being allegedly ordered to harass him, met him at the Press Club to apologise.
He wrote, “Touched by the moral courage of journalist Deepu Aby Varghese who resigned from @republic TV after being ordered to harass me at the Tvm Press Club. He approached me to apologise for his behaviour, as have some former employees of @TimesNow. Decency appreciated. @seegerblues.”

Arnab Goswami asked to appear before Court in defamation suit filed by Shashi Tharoor

The Chief Judicial Magistrate, Thiruvananthapuram, has directed Arnab Goswami of Republic TV to appear in Court on the 28th of February in the criminal defamation suit filed against him by senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor, LiveLaw reported.
Tharoor had filed a defamation case against Goswami for the latter’s reportage of events related to the mysterious death of the Congress leader’s third wife, Sunanda Pushkar. Goswami had apparently furthered the ‘murder angle’ while reporting on the case. Tharoor had then responded with his now famous/infamous ‘farrago’ tweet. He had then proceeded to file a defamation suit against the reputed journalist in May 2017.
Arnab Goswami has been attracting threats from Congress leaders and those associated with them. Robert Vadra was reported to have sent a legal notice to the journalist for his reportage of the ‘Vadra papers’. Congress spokesperson Sanjay Jha had also threatened him on Twitter after he was appointed a member of the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library Society, the body that controls the Teen Murti Estate.
