Hours after the abduction, Senior journalist Laba Yambem was released by around 11 am, police sources said.
In September last year, assailants opened fire on Yambem’s residence, which he said was a “political attack” for his critical stance against the present state government.
Senior journalist Laba Yambem was abducted from his home in Imphal West early Tuesday morning, his family said, hours after he made remarks critical of the United National Liberation Front insurgent group. He was released later, following which he apologised “to UNLF and the people of Manipur”.
According to his family, Yamben was taken away from his home, where he lives with his wife, around 3:30 am Tuesday. “Around 30 armed persons forced entry into our house and abducted him from his bed at gunpoint. He was in his nightclothes and was barefoot. He was called to a panel discussion last night by a news channel,” his wife, Jayshree Yambem, said in a statement.
