Arrests – Journalists

Prashant Rahi, an Uttarakhand-based journalist-turned-activist arrested for his alleged links with Naxalites, has revealed during his interrogation that some jealous fellow activists from other front organizations might have leaked the information of his travel itinerary to the security agencies. Gadchiroli police, who arrested Rahi on September 1, said he was picked up at Deori in Gondia district while carrying documents to a senior central committee member of banned Communist party of India (Maoist) based in Naxal-stronghold Abujmadh.

While police said they netted Rahi following information received from Hem Mishra, a so-called Naxal courier arrested on August 22 from near Morewada village in Aheri, south Gadchiroli, supporters of the former journalist of the ‘Statesman’ claimed that the man was picked up from Raipur on way to meet a lawyer to collect a file. Police claimed Rahi was actively working for a so-called front organization, Committee for Release of Political Prisoners (CRPP), after getting bail in the case slapped against him in 2007.
