In a recent development, FIRs have been filed in Rajasthan against News18 anchor Aman Chopra over his coverage of temples’ demolition in Alwar on his TV debate show. FIRs against Chopra have been registered at the Bundi police station in Rajasthan and the Bichhiwada police station in Dungarpur. Apart from promoting communal discord, and conspiring to incite riots, serious sections of sedition have also been added against Chopra.

During his show on the demolition of temples in Alwar, Aman Chopra brought up the anti-encroachment drive held in Jahangirpuri recently and wondered whether the action in Alwar was a retaliation for the drive in Jahangirpuri. Following the show, a coordinated hashtag was run on social media urging authorities to arrest Chopra for trying to link the two drives, this prompted the authorities to register cases against him.

Rajasthan Police Team in Noida to Arrest TV Journalist Aman Chopra

A team of Rajasthan Police is in Noida in Uttar Pradesh to arrest TV journalist Aman Chopra for allegedly promoting enmity between different groups and hurting religious sentiments, an official said on Sunday.

According to Dungarpur Kotwali police station, an FIR was registered against Mr Chopra by a man alleging that the journalist gave false and fictitious details by showing that the demolition of a temple in Rajgarh of Alwar district was done by the Rajasthan government as an act of revenge following the demolition drive in Delhi’s Jahangirpuri.

Three FIRs have been registered against Mr Chopra, including in Bundi, Alwar and Dungarpur districts under various sections pertaining to sedition, outraging religious sentiments, promoting enmity between two groups, and under the IT Act on April 23.

Mr Chopra got a stay from the Rajasthan High Court on his arrest in two FIRs registered against him in Bundi and Alwar districts, but is facing an arrest warrant following a local court order in Dungarpur district, police said.
