The Agartala Press Club today condemned the attack on Senior journalist Swapan Kumar Das by Border Security Force (BSF) personnel at Belonia in South Tripura district on Monday last. BSF personnel physically assaulted the journalist, robbed his mobile phone, when the scribe went at Muhurighat to cover an event regarding the visit of the Deputy Inspector General of BSF

Belonia BOP in-charge of BSF ML Hakki had asked the journalist not to shoot any photo, but the journalist showed his Identity card and took photos of the DIG’s visit without crossing the border fencing. When Das was riding on his motor cycle, a group of rogue BSF personnel pulled his collar, robbed the mobile phone and severely bit him and then forcibly took him to Belonia police station and tried to file a false FIR against him. Journalist, Das has filed a case at Belonia Police Station against the CO of 43 Battalion of BSF and the in-charge of Belonia BOP.
