Attacks – Journalists

A joint statement of All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union (AMWJU) and Editors’ Guild Manipur (EGM) on Sunday condemned the recent brutal assault of a reporter by armed miscreants. The armed miscreants physically assaulted Kumar Nongthombam, a reporter of Image TV, a Kakching based local cable network in his rented room at Wangkhei of Imphal East district on the intervening night of February 23 and 24.

The joint statement of AMWJU and EGM alleged that the reporter was taken away by the armed miscreants after being assaulted physically.  The reporter was later handed over to two members of a civil society organisation. According to the injured Kumar, unidentified armed miscreants forcibly entered his room, assaulted him without provocation, and disregarded his press credentials, discarding them in the fire.
