A student of the Government Arts College, Coimbatore has been indefinitely suspended for organising a meeting to mark the birth anniversary of freedom fighter Bhagat Singh in the campus on September 28. S Malathi, a first year MA (History) student, was suspended from the college on October 1 for organising the meeting in the college without getting due permission.

The suspension order accessed by IndiaToday.in says that “despite refusal from the principal to convene a meeting, Malathi went ahead and organised a meeting with other department students. Her action amounts to indiscipline and has disrupted the peace in the college campus.” A copy of the order was sent to the history department, disciplinary committee, the Race Course police station and to Malathi’s parents.
