The situation has worsened in Rajasthan’s Jalore district after clashes broke out between police and family members of the Dalit boy who was beaten to death by a teacher in Surana village on Sunday. Dewaram Meghawal, 40, father of the deceased, Indra Kumar, and other relatives sustained serious injuries after police baton charged the angry locals, most of whom come from the Dalit community.

On Sunday, around 4.15 pm, the clash turned violent after police served notice to the family members and were creating pressure to dispose of the body. When locals intervened and stopped the police, the fields of Surana village turned into a battlefield. On one hand, police were thrashing the locals, including family members of the Dalit boy, and on the other locals also started pelting stones at policemen.

In this incident, more than a dozen people were injured and members of the Bhim Army have been detained. The internet connection has been shut in the area.
