On 20 May 2020, The Press Council of India requested a report from the government of Uttar Pradesh on the filing of an FIR against Aashish Avasthi, Editor of Media Break, in connection with a news item about problems being faced by Home Guards during COVID-19. The PCI released a statement saying: “The Press Council of India Chairman Justice Shri C. K. Prasad has noted with concern that an FIR has been lodged against Shri Aashish Avasthi, editor, Media Break on publication of news item regarding problems being faced by Home Guards during Covid-19. Taking suo-motu cognizance of the case, a Report on Fact of the case has been called for from the Government of Uttar Pradesh.”
