Lawfare, Detention – Journalists
Two Punjab based journalists who run ‘The Mike Report’, journalists Rajwinder Singh and Lakhwinder Singh were detained on October 10 near Connaught Place around 11 am while reporting from there.
They filmed the police detaining protesters and, on seeing men in plaincloths with the police, asked the police who they were and why they were with the police.
An IPS officer named Anil Shukla, chief of the Delhi Police Special Cell, seized Lakhwinder Singh’s camera and handed it to a constable. The two journalists were then detained and don’t know where the camera is and got no response from the police about it. The camera cost around Rs 1 lakh.
The journalists were first taken to Civil Lines police station for about an hour, then to the Kashmere Gate police station. They were freed only around 7.30 pm. after police took down their address, IDs, Aadhaar cards, and phone numbers.
